Speak With College Students

Some of the Best Resources for College Research are Currently Attending College

Finding students to speak with at the various colleges in which you are interested has been revolutionized by social media. Now you don’t have to rely on the college or university to possibly get you in contact with someone – with resources like Facebook, you can go directly to the source.

Good Questions to Ask Students:
  • Why did you choose this school?
  • What other schools did you consider?
  • Has this school lived up to your expectations?
  • What do you like/dislike about the school?
  • What are the dorms like?
  • Are there dorms to avoid?
  • These are just a starting point. We’re sure you can come up with more.

How To Approach a Student Attending a College in Which You’re Interested
You probably already have a Facebook account. Do a search on Facebook to find students at the college in which you are interested. You can likely find students with similar interests or studying something you would be interested in. Maybe you already have some of those students in your friends list. When you find them, introduce yourself and ask them if it is ok to ask them about the college they are attending.

Maintain Your Objectivity
Be careful not to get tunnel vision. When you start talking to students, especially if it is someone you connect with, it’s easy to fall into the “that’s the school for me” trap and ignore the other colleges on your list. Find students at all the universities on your list and ask them all questions.
